About Me

I'm a software engineer / full stack developer with 30+ years experience designing & developing software, websites, and web based applications. Over the years, I've developed Unix (terminal) based applications, Windows based (GUI) applications, but nowadays everything is Web based.

For the last 20+ years, I have been developing primarily websites and web based applications. I've done front end work, back end work, and pretty much everything in between. At this point, however, I would consider front end (HTML / CSS / JS) as my biggest strength.

May 2022 – Present Serve as a system architect / full stack developer on the Automated Data Environment (ADE) project at Louisiana Technology Group (LATG) / General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT).

  • Responsible for all phases of design & development. This includes designing database tables, writing SQL to extract / manipulate data, writing Java code for server side processing (Spring / Spring Boot), designing Thymeleaf templates, and writing HTML / CSS / JavaScript for the front end (including jQuery & Bootstrap).

Nov 2021 – Sep 2022: Served as a software engineering consultant for the Comptroller Document Management System (CDMS) software development effort at PSI Pax, Inc. (California, MD).

  • Responsible for a re-design of the Invoice Tracker CDMS subsystem. CDMS uses the ASP.Net Core MVC, a SQL Server database, C#, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, jQuery, and Bootstrap. The application was originally done with ASP.Net Web Forms. I am responsible for re-designing using MVC.

Jan 2002 – Apr 2022: Served as a software engineering consultant for the Standard Labor Data Collection and Distribution Application (SLDCADA) software development effort at Yorktown Naval Weapons Station (Yorktown, VA).

  • The latest version of SLDCADA uses the Spring framework, an Oracle database, Java Server Pages (JSPs), JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and ExtJS. Responsible for establishing client side architecture, designing JavaScript widgets to be used throughout the application, and complete design of multiple screens from client to server. Screen development involves server side Java code to make DB calls to retrieve and save data, JSP code to produce user interface, and JavaScript to support client side functionality.
  • Developed, from scratch, a content management system for the SLDCADA website. This uses an the Spring framework, an Oracle database, JSPs, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS. The system allows the customer service team to manage the website content without having to write HTML or manually manipulate data in the database. It allows for direct update of page content, manages scheduling of trainings, handles uploading documents & media, and manages which users of the system are able to perform which actions.
  • The previous version of SLDCADA used the Struts framework, an Oracle database, Java, JavaScript, XML, XSL, and HTML. Responsible for writing middle tier Java code, JavaScript to support client side functionality, XSL / XSLT files to transform XML data into HTML, and HTML to produce the user interface.

Developed numerous websites for clients. Most of these sites were written using PHP and access a MySQL database. Many of these sites were developed using WordPress.

Taught multiple computer programming courses at Electronic Computer Programming Institute (ECPI).

Computer Sciences Corporation, Inc. (May 1999 to December 2001)
Senior Systems Analyst (May 1999 to December 2001)

Served on the development team that developed initial Web based versions of SLDCADA. The first version of this application used Java servlets to perform all server side processing and access an Oracle database. The next version used JSPs and Java to perform all server side processing and access an Oracle database. In both versions, responsibilities included the following: writing Java code to access database and manipulate / extract data, writing JSPs to build the user interface, and writing JavaScript to support client side functionality.
